President’s Message

The vision and mission of our congregation continues to be a major focus of the Board.  The first step that we are taking is to draft a new “Mission Statement”.  Mission statements are like a compass to guide us as a community as we decide what is important to us and where to focus our attention.  They are living visions and must be revisited every few years as the congregation and its interests grow and change.  A mission statement should also be a very short statement of the core idea of who we are.  Our more concrete goals and how we meet those goals are important, but are not part of our mission statement.

The congregation’s current mission statement – yes we do have one – has not been revisited in years and has gotten stale.  It also lacks the focus necessary to serve as a compass.  With Jeff Hill’s help and after much thought and discussion, the Board has come up with a draft statement to start the discussion.  It reads as follows:

We are an inclusive community of seekers pursuing deeper meaning through the process of spiritual engagement, learning, reasoning and action.

The mission statement is not just for the Board, it is for all of us.  While we thought it would make the process easier to give everyone a draft to start with, we welcome your thoughts and comments. We plan to have a congregational meeting this summer to discuss the ideas and comments we receive and to – we hope – vote on a new Mission Statement for NUUC.

We all look forward to a thoughtful discussion of who we are and what we want to be.

Thanks for your Faithful Giving…

Summer is just around the corner, and although demands and schedules are more relaxed in this season, the obligations of the church don't take a “vacation.”  We still have to meet our commitments, pay for utilities, etc., and your faithful and consistent giving is so appreciated and necessary to staying on budget.

Remember:  you can always mail in an offering or pledge check, even if your schedule keeps you away from services.  Just mail it to:  NUUC, Attn: JGD, P. O. Box 541, Lewis Center, OH 43035.

Pledging statements for the period through June 30 will go out in July.  In the meantime, if you have any questions about the status of your giving or other pledging matters, feel free to call the church office at 740-657-8081 and talk to Rev. Ritchie (RevRitchie@aol.com) or Jeri Dill (nuucjdill@aol.com).

Our annual Stewardship Drive happens in the fall of the year; if you would like to make a formal financial commitment to the church prior to that time, contact Stewardship Chair Laura Howe at Howe_L@yahoo.com or visit our website at www.nuuc.org and click on “About Us” and then “Stewardship Materials.”
