Committees

We hope you will look over these opportunities to become more involved with the North Unitarian Universalist Congregation and consider where you might best use your talents. Involvement in committee work can be personally rewarding and extremely beneficial to the entire church community.  We invite you to join us in doing the work of the congregation.

Our committees are divided into two groups:  Program committees and Administrative committees.  Program committees include all committees that deal with worship and congregational services. Administrative committees encompass the business affairs of the congregation.

We invite you to complete the Inventory of Gifts and Interests survey to learn how you might contribute to the well-being of our congregation, and then contact a committee chair or Rev. Susan Ritchie to see how you can share your talents and interests with others.

Program Committees

Adult Education (Susan Ritchie, chair)

This committee selects and arranges for the presentation of forums and adult education programs for members and friends as well as those in the wider community. The selected topics offer opportunities to explore Unitarian Universalist principles and purposes.

Membership (John Rodeheffer, chair)

Committee members welcome visitors to the church, look to strategies for member involvement and inclusion, and assist the minister with orientations and celebrations for new members.

Social Action (Tracy Steinbrenner, co-chair)

The Social Action Committee fosters discussions, promotes education, and supports action regarding social, economic, and human rights issues. Committee members are involved with the Bloodmobile program, support for a Holiday Family, the School Supplies program, food pantry donations, and other projects.

Religious Education (Susan Ritchie)

This committee, with the assistance of Rev. Ritchie (interim Director of Religious Education Ministries), plans, advocates, and sets the direction of the religious nurture of our children and youth.  The committee also reviews curriculum and provides the framework for the many volunteers who serve as teachers, youth advisors, and assistants for related service projects, worship services, and social events.

Social (Jan Bourke, chair)

If you enjoy planning a party, this is the committee for you!  Committee members plan church social events, from the coffee time after Sunday services to the wonderful potlucks and progressive dinners that help foster a sense of community.

Worship (Rachel Baker, chair)

This committee works with the minister to create opportunities for religious experiences for the congregation. Members help plan special services.  They are responsible for coordinating all the lay services.

Administrative Committees

Finance (Scot Grimshaw, chair)

This committee makes recommendations regarding the financial health of the congregation. Members also prepare the annual budget recommendations for the Board.

Building & Grounds (Bob Keith, chair)

The Building and Grounds committee is responsible for the maintenance of the church building and the surrounding grounds.

Stewardship (Susan Ritchie and Juluianna Nemeth)

This group conducts the annual pledge drive. It recruits and trains canvassers, plans the approach to surveying members and friends about their concerns and financial commitment, and organizes the drive.

Ways and Means (Board of Trustees)

This committee is responsible for organizing and promoting fundraising events for the congregation, including our annual yard sale and Service Auction.
