From your Board and Committees!

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

As I write this, I am thinking about the Thanksgiving service and bread communion that we just celebrated.  What a wonderful experience that was.  It reminded yet again how much I appreciate this congregation and what it stands for.  We are all very lucky.

In addition to preparing for Thanksgiving and the holiday season, the finance committee, Reverend Ritchie and the board have been engaging in another November/December tradition – preparing and discussing the budget for the next year. The stewardship campaign has concluded and we can now get down to business solidifying everything.

I would like to thank Laura Howe and all the members of the stewardship committee for their hard work this year.  I would also like to thank everyone for carefully considering their pledges.  Unfortunately, due to changing circumstances within the congregation, the total pledges this year were down from last year by almost $14,000.  By now, you will have received something from Reverend Ritchie regarding our plans to alleviate this deficit.  We would like to conduct a one-time, special pledge campaign during the first weeks of December.  We are asking everyone to look carefully at their unique situations and consider whether they can provide an additional pledge for next year.  If those who can could commit to just a little bit more each month, we will be able to fill the gap with ease.

We will be having a congregational meeting on December 19, 2010 to present and vote on the 2011 budget.  It would be wonderful if we can come to that meeting and report that this was a successful effort.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss any issues, please do not hesitate to talk to me.

Until next month,

Nina Webb-Lawton
